
Gayle is the Station Producer at Umeewarra and has been producing community radio since 2004. She has maintained a strong focus on community involvement at all level in the radio station. Umeewarra does more than broadcast quality radio, it is involved in events, festivals, training, and community empowerment programs, many of which have been initiated by Gayle and have become part of Umeewarra's role in the community. She has played a pivotal role in securing funding to support youth, the elderly, health initiatives, language and cultural preservation, and other vital community programs. Her advocacy and involvement have strengthened Umeewarra's presence as a key organisation in the region, making it a trusted and influential force in community development and empowerment. Umeewarra has also become a crucial gateway for external agencies seeking to engage with and assist the community.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Umeewarra played an essential role in the Aboriginal community's response, providing critical information, resources, and support. Its efforts helped ensure community safety, access to health services, and effective communication between community members and external health agencies.
Gayle has supported young Aboriginal people in finding their niche in community media and sharing their voices with the world. She has been recognised for her contributions with the NAIDOC Non-Aboriginal Person of the Year award. Passionate about fostering creative vision within the community, she navigates a wide range of challenges, from technical to political. Gayle has also played a crucial role in securing sponsorships for Umeewarra and remains a key part of the team, ensuring the station stays on air 24/7.
